Having a radically creative mentality sure has its value, but in the design of everyday things, doing the typical boring things that everybody expects typically works best.
Very true. I went to buy a new toaster oven a few years ago and was astounded at the reviews on Amazon: hard to use, directions too complicated, need a manual. If people need a manual to make toast, your engineering design process is broken!
